Qatar End of Service Gratuity Explained

In Qatar, end of service gratuity is paid when your job ends, if you have worked for at least a year.

The rule

Under Article 54 of the Labour Law (Law No. 14 of 2004), your employer pays gratuity at the end of your service if you have spent 1 year or more in the job. The amount must be not less than three weeks of wage for each year of service. You also get gratuity for part-years in proportion to the time worked.

How to work it out

  1. Take your last basic wage for a month and divide by 30 to get a daily rate.
  2. Multiply by 21 days (three weeks).
  3. Multiply by your years of service, including part-years.

A worked example

Basic wage QAR 6,000 a month. The daily rate is QAR 200. After 5 years: 200 × 21 × 5 = QAR 21,000. Use the Qatar gratuity calculator for your own dates.

Things to know

  • This is the minimum. Your contract can agree a higher amount, so check it.
  • The calculator uses basic wage only, not allowances or bonuses.
  • There is no maximum in the law's minimum rule, so we do not apply a cap.
  • You need to have completed 1 year. Less than that gives no gratuity.
