How this calculator works
If your net income is above the threshold, you repay 15 cents of Old Age Security for every dollar over it. For income earned in 2026 the threshold is $95,323. The repayment is taken out of your OAS payments from July of the following year.
We compare your income with the threshold, work out the repayment, and show how much OAS you keep. The income where your OAS is fully recovered depends on how much OAS you get.
Net income here means your net world income for tax purposes, after deductions such as RRSP contributions. Some choices, such as RRSP deductions and splitting income, can lower it.

Frequently asked questions
What is the OAS clawback?
It is a recovery tax. If your net income is above a yearly threshold, you repay part of your Old Age Security: 15 cents for each dollar over the threshold.
What is the 2026 OAS clawback threshold?
For income earned in 2026, the threshold is $95,323. The repayment is deducted from your OAS from July of the next year.
How can I reduce the clawback?
Lowering your net income helps. Examples are RRSP deductions, splitting eligible pension income with a spouse, and taking money from a TFSA, which does not count as income.
Can I defer OAS?
Yes. You can delay your OAS up to age 70 for a higher monthly amount. That can help if your income is high now and lower later.
