How this calculator works
You earn TFSA room every year from the year you turn 18, as long as you are a Canadian resident, starting no earlier than 2009. We add up the official limit for each year you were eligible, take off everything you have contributed, and add back what you withdrew in earlier years.
Withdrawals are added back to your room on January 1 of the next year, so a withdrawal this year does not give you room until next year.
This is an estimate. Your CRA My Account shows your exact room, and that is the number to rely on.

Frequently asked questions
What is the TFSA limit for 2026?
The TFSA annual limit for 2026 is $7,000. Your own room also includes unused room from earlier years.
How do I find my exact TFSA room?
Sign in to your CRA My Account. It shows your contribution room. Your bank statements can be out of date, so rely on the CRA figure.
What if I put in too much?
You pay a tax on the excess amount for each month it stays in your TFSA. Take it out as soon as you notice, and check with the CRA.
When do withdrawals give me room back?
On January 1 of the following year. Putting the money back in the same year can push you over your limit.
Do newcomers to Canada get room?
Room starts the year you become a resident (and are 18 or older). It does not build up for years you lived outside Canada.
